Ok,. so its been plenty long since I've been here. Lots of ups and downs when you travel life in the slow lane on Funk Road. Thats a story all unto itself that I'll get to here in the near future........ but for right now, I'M BACK! With new music for old friend and some new music for new friends!
The next few days of postings are not gonna be " the funk" in the usual sense of the funk I usually post here. This isn't anything off of a rare ,obscure 45 that I had to obtain black lung and a snoot-full of mold spores while digging thru a mildewed crate of records in somebodies musty basement to find.
But , thats not to say that this band doesn't lay down the funky skunky to make ya dance like a coked up monkey . These guys are a league of their own. Although I doubt I've got a friend anywhere that isn't aware that I'm a Phish fan , they might not actually be aware of just exactly what it is that Phish does that makes me and a few of my friends drive or fly halfway across the country and back, use up multiple days of vacation time,. and on the very rare instance possibly even quit a job just to shake our asses and dance the funky chicken in the presence of these guys.
So to introduce those who need introducing I'm gonna post the MP3's of each nights complete show with each disc as one big zip file and I'm also gonna post a few individual tunes from each night as a sampler of sorts that you can listen to before you'd commit to downloading an entire disc of something you might decide isn't your style ( and if it isn't your style, I'm sorta glad because its already hard enough to get tickets)
I'm also gonna sorta limit my individual song choices to the songs I feel are most approachable for the Phish virgin....... a 25 minute minute "you Enjoy Myself" might not be the best introduction to this band for ya. Instructions for listening and / or downloading is at the bottom of the post beneath the links ( the song titles in colored font) ......... so without much further delay, Ladies and Gentlemen-
PHISH
Friday October 29th Boardwalk Hall Atlantic City
My Soul - Althought they did an acappella Star Spangled Banner first, im considering this song the opener of fridays show. A favorite of mine since its debut ,. its not a rarity, but its not over-played either. As soon as I heard the opening shuffle to this song I knew it was gonna be a great weekend.
AC/DC Bag - Nope, this song has nothing to do with Angus Young, Bon Scott,or Phil Rudd. This is one of Phish's oldest tunes having been around since the 80's when the band first got their start in Vermont. Its surely one of my favs , and I know a little girlie out in Colorado that really digs this one too,. especially when its hard and fast.
Light Up or Leave Me Alone - Definitely appropriate for a Phish show , heres one ya might already recognize ,.. a cover of the classic Traffic song from their 1971 Low Spark of the High-Heeled Boys album. Somewhat seldom played, this one has only made an appearance 16 times since Phish debuted it in 1986,but fortunately seems to be getting a bit more play post-hiatus.
Did you enjoy those?.. Here's the entire night! Full set lists are available from HERE
